Caffe Nero for Dorking?
Posted on here and if this rumour is true then Prezzo PLC has sold the Immo Caffe chain to Cafe Nero. There is a couple of items on the web to suggest this and, if true, will indeed have some impact on the current coffee bars in the town. Mind you Fothergil's is expensive anyway so competition will be welcome.
It will be interesting to see what will happen to the previous Immo Caffe in Dorking. This building previously owned by the NatWest, which many hoped would be converted to an upmarket winebar. It turned out that it ended up as Prezzo Italian Restaurant then turned into Cafe Immo.
Strangely enough Prezzo seemed to occupy a lower status in Dorking. Last year I was in Weymouth and the Prezzo there is thriving, packed and booked up days in advance. Mind you suprisingly there is not so much choice there as in Dorking!
Whatever the reasons for these restaurants failures this building remains vitally important for Dorking. The front alone has alot of presence and displays a hint of excitement whilst still being well designed. Please let it not be empty for long....

Noticed when I went by the former Prezzo / Cafe Immo premises on Thursday afternoon that there was a sign inside the front door saying that COSTA COFFEE will be opening shortly and that they will be recruiting in Redhill, if anybody was interested. So, Costa have made it into the last large High Street in Surrey without a chain coffee shop (ie. Caffe Nero, Starbucks, Coffee Republic etc.) I guess it is better than these premises remaining empty for months on end. There are things that worry me -- ie. other landlords will push up the rents on their premises and push the independents out at the expense of more tedious chain shop(s) and more of the independent shop(s) will disappear as they won't be able to compete with the aggressive and underhand tactics of the chains marching on in!!!
