Junction Road demolition
What has happened in Junction Road? The building which was there which I think comprised a shop and small courtyard style area with a wierd barrel type thing has completely gone.
It was one of those quirky buildings which makes Dorking an interesting place to walk around. I once went to a party in one of the flats which overlooks West Street (in which I seem to remember was long ago once a cinema, near the Kings Arms) and the entrance to those flats was through the courtyard.
No doubt the area will be turned into modern flats. My God they really need to get the design right in this area of town as it is almost a part of West Street. Please no bland flat architecture! That is something that seems to be cropping up more and more in Dorking.

If you think things are bad in Dorking for new developments look at Esher, Cobham, Leatherhead, Reigate etc. Dorking has an acute shortage of housing. Hence Dorking IS one of the most expensive places to live in Surrey. We need more flats although most of them these days have no parking with them and therefore, all the roads get clogged with parking and stationery traffic. I sincerely hope that this new development on Junction Road is in character with the surrounding area and is not one hell of a blot on the landscape.
Good God -- the Harman Brothers are always wheeling and dealing. They own quite a sizable part of Dorking retail. Their sole aim is to makes tons of money and destroy the 'fabric' of Dorking town centre. These guys have not got one ounce of compassion and are just greedy 'property developers'. Good riddence to their antique shop and good luck to Ziboh Interiors when they re-open down in West Street in January 2007. Great to hear that The Vineyard (according to the Dorking Ad) is moving to larger premises in Dorking and shows not all independent businesses struggle and fold. Any other rumours floating around Dorking at present?? Is the Wetherspoons one dead and buried yet?? How about the possible relocation of the Harley garage??
