The Dorking Advertiser

It has been said on here a few time recently that the Dorking Advertiser is turning into some kind of tabloid newspaper.

One other thing I have noticed is that lately there seems to be a few stories on Dorking but also loads about Ashtead, Epsom, Leatherhead and even Godstone on one occassion. Maybe there is just not so much to report at the moment, I don't know what the reason is. I mean it will hardly affect sales, as we all like to buy it each week just to keep up with local news.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I have noticed that the Dorking ad does seem to report on news from a wider area, and i agree it's probably that there is just not wenough local news to fill the paper.

Not only is the Dorking Ad becaming more sensationalistic, it appears to ignore the plight of the Dorking residents. Why do we sometimes get stories from Reigate and Redhill. Is it because the so-called journalists at the Dorking Ad, are busy pinching stories from the Surrey Mirror or, does nothing happen in Dorking, at all???

As we all know, quite a bit happens in Dorking. Most residents have given up reporting 'minor' crimes to the police and the police are so out of touch with the local community. Noticed that a couple of windows were shattered on Friday night (11/10). One belongs to the Woolen Mill and the other belongs to Star Cleaners at the lower end of the High Street near pump corner. Looked above and there was the 'new, much praised' cctv camera -- I bet it did not pick up a suspect or anything for that matter!

On my street, close to the town centre, we had a night full of screaming kids who were hellbent on fighting, vandalism and anti-social behaviour. This morning, we woke to about six gardens which were completely destroyed, smashed windows on five cars in the car park opposite and graffiti splattered everywhere. My neighbour called the police FOUR times last night only to be told that none were in the vicinity of Dorking and they would get back to her. Nobody did. This lady, is in her late seventies, lives by herself and told me she was absolutely petrified. So, much for ultra thin blue line!

If the Dorking Ad, wants stories from the local area all it has to do is look at this blog for starters, go out on foot and speak to the residents, retailers and businesses in Dorking -- is that too much too ask??

Stop exaggerating! We all know nothing major happens in Dorking. A little bit of tagging is harmless stuff, just a few kids letting off a bit of steam. The odd fight, smashed window or two, car stolen is nothing compared to the likes of Moss Side, Hackney or the St. Helier Estate. The kids have nothing to do except hang around, so lay off them and stop blaming them for all the problems. As for the police, they are not needed in Dorking. In other words, they would better off going elsewhere where they are needed and leave the kids to hang around the park, the kebab shop, outside Woolies. When has that been a crime? It is a free country after all.
