Cancer Research Shop, next to WHSmith's
For some time now the Cancer Research shop next to WHSmith's in the High Street has been closed. So why do people still leave unwanted clothes outside? I walked past tonight and there was a pile of them by the door.
Thinking about it, wasn't Halfords going to expand into this unit?

Because people are becoming more selfish and lazy! The same could be said for the people who leave their fast food rubbish (from the Kebab shop & KFC) all over the High Street on Friday and Saturday night. These are the same people who vomit on the pavement, smash bottles and pint glasses all over the High Street, cause criminal damage and smash the odd shop window for the hell of it!! If anyone has seen the High Street, South Street etc. on a Saturday / Sunday early morning -- it is a disgrace and it is high time that the KFC & the Kebab shop had somebody go around picking up all the litter that has accumulated at the end of Friday / Saturday night. And, it really does annoy me that people continue to leave stuff outside the charity shop(s) when they are specifically told that they should NOT do it! Not only is it a fire hazard but, stuff gets stolen all the time and creates a unsightly mess outside these shops.
Apparently, there were going be new flats above WHSmmith & Halfords - but, this all fell through, as the developer pulled out! This was the same developer who was going to enlarge the Halfords shop. Rumours, are now, that the WHSmith will expand. Though, I doubt it, as they are in great financial difficulty. So, I can see, this unit being empty for quite some time, with the clothes still being dumped there on occasions by lazy, inconsiderate morons!
More bad news for Dorking town centre as yet another shop decides to relocate -- (From the guide, Dorking Advertiser - February 16 2006)
One of Dorking's best-loved art galleries is leaving the town to relocate to London.
With increasing demands from a London-based clientele, Summers Art Gallery, currently based at Pump Corner, is relocating to Chelsea at the end of March.
Responding to the shift in her client base, gallery owner Kit Bentley has decided that it is now time to move from Dorking to a new premises in London.
"While I have loved running the gallery in Dorking, it has become increasingly obvious that London collectors are crying out for the contemporary French art for which Summers Art has become known," says Kit. "The four years have flown by and I very much hope to see our Dorking clients and friends up in town."
It is real shame that this shop is closing down as I thought the shop brought a bit of glamour and colour to the High Street on a dreary day!
Have also heard that there are quite a few shops that are either looking to relocate out of Dorking or shut down. Isn't time that Dorking Town Management pull their finger out of the ear and promoted the town across Surrey and looked for suitable replacements for the empty units?? My guess is that they are secretly hoping that more shops will go under/relocate so, that Sainsburys will get planning permission for their superstore at the end of St. Martins Walk!
