St Martins Walk - What does the Manager do?
There is an increasing pigeon problem in St Martins Walk, especially down the lower end. I was walking home from the pub the other night and as I reached the bottom of the shopping centre I noticed about 15 pigeons sitting on the ledge near Fun and Games - the shop.
I also had a browse through the Dorking Directory and noticed that St Martins Walk is advetised on the back. God knows why they bother putting the website address at the bottom of the advert as St Martins Walk possibly has one of the worst websites around. It displays a total lack of effort. I mean it wouldn't take much to take a couple of photo's using a digital camera.

Totally agree with this posting! The manager of St. Martins Walk is an absolute joke. His name is Ralph Rice and is never in his office. He is always taking days off due to being ill. A lot of the shops are in dire need of a lick of paint (ie. The Officers Club, Clinton cards etc.) The run down image of St. Martins Walk is a absolute disgrace and the neglected state of these shops, shows the manager does not give a toss about the shops and their customers. It is also amusing to hear that St. Martins Walk (SMW)continues to advertise in the Dorking Directory year on year, as the number of shops gets smaller and smaller. The only things that the manager of SMW is good at is hiking up the service charges on the shops on an annual basis, forcing more and more shops to close and preparing us for the eventual demise of SMW when Sainsbury's moves in!
What a shocking website (ie. the St. Martins Walk one NOT the Blog!) It sums up St. Martins Walk -- crap, devoid of any imagination, atmosphere etc. and being left to rot whilst Thornfield / Sainsbury's get their way down there! I have tried to contact the manager of St. Martins Walk for a fortnight and have NO response from anybody. He is probably on gardening leave counting his thousands of pounds from Thornfield/MVDC, to purposely rundown St. Martins Walk and get rid of any viable business down there! I cannot believe that such a pleasant shopping centre which has no traffic roaring by it or through it, is left to die albeit slowly. Apparently, the rents, business rates and service charges are forcing the shops to close and Mole Valley, the councillors, the town centre management should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this to happen...
NOTHING -- He just counts his wages whilst destroying St. Martins Walk! A friend of mine enquired about a few of the empty units down in St. Martins Walk. Only to be told that they are no longer on the market and that they would remain empty until plans for a new development (ie. Sainsbury's) would get the go ahead. Charming!
