Khyber Pass - Longest empty unit?

I think that the formerly Khyber Pass restuarant could be a candidate as the longest standing empty unit in Dorking. Had a peer through the window tonight and amazingly it is completely unchanged other than the chairs and tables have been removed.

I remember going there a few times after hours. It was always busy but never seemed on the same league of quality as the Curry Garden in South Street.

These days we have several other quality curry restuarants which have overtaken the New Curry Garden in reputation and overall quality - Dorking Brasserie, Chilli&Spice and Zaffron. Mind you the original still has put in a major effort with their own website, even though it is a slightly dodgy design. New Curry Garden

The owners of the former Khyber Pass are now the owners of the Dorking Brasserie. They moved from their premises in the High Street because of the high rents, surprise, surprise! A lot of rumours of the restaurant front -- Cafe Rialto will moving from their present premises on South Street to a much larger unit ie. the former Route 25/Billabong site. I think, it will be a good move as they are always packed out, serve good food at reasonable prices and offer great service. The only thing about their new location is that it is cursed -- the amount of restaurants that have come and gone over the years is ridiculous. Where Cafe Rialto are at present, looks like will be yet another Indian / Curry restaurant -- like we need another one in Dorking!! The time scale is uncertain and I am unsure when this will go ahead.

With the former Seven, Puccino's and Khyber Pass units ALL under offer -- it is my guess on what they will be. How about another Indian, Chinese and an Italian thrown in for good measure! As, it has been mentioned before, how about something different -- Japanese, Mexican, a speciality fish restaurant maybe, even an English restaurant!! Heaven forbid....
