The Malthouse, New licence application

I have heard that the Malthouse pub, Mill Lane is now re-applying to have its serving hours extended up to 1.00am between Thursday and Sunday nights, and up to 12.00 midnight on other weekday nights.

Since the new licensing hours came into effect in November there has been a noticable reduction in the number of people hanging around in the town once the pubs have closed. You still get the odd few but it is nothing like it used to be especially around the Kebab etc.

I disagree that the Malthouse should be allowed to extend its hours only 3 months after it was refused (currently it stops serving at 12.00). The pub has never been well run for years, often has had loud music (even in the week) and mainly attracts people under the age of 20. I think that Mole Valley District Council should refuse the application and let things carry on as they are for the foreseeable future.

Large piece in Dorking Ad (March 16) about The Malthouse's second bid in four months to extend their hours. It mentions that The Malthouse, hopes to serve alcohol and provide entertainment until 1AM from Thursday to Saturday.

I totally agree with you about this pub. It is chav-infested and these people have no respect for the residents who live nearby! I walked by there last summer and it was full of drunken yobs whose idea of fun is to fight and kick the s**t out of each other!!!

I found it quite amusing the quotes from Mo Sarooq, the pub's assistant manager and licensee, said "We don't want to annoy the neighbours - we want to keep the peace as much as possible."

He added: "It is the police's duty to make sure there is not any trouble after people have left the premises."

Well-- if this pub was run as a responsible pub there would be little or no trouble there. Sadly, it has and always will attract the dregs of society as it continues to offer outrageous drink promotions, serves underage drinkers and turns a blind eye to all illegal activity. So, Mole Valley must reject The Malthouse's latest application for a late licence as, the pub feels that the problems associated with the pub are not their problem -- wonderful!?!
