"Ghost Towns" on Radio 5 Live
I see that a couple of visitors that someone texted in Dorking to Radio 5 Live at 6.40am this morning in a debate on Ghost Towns in the UK. The text said that "Dorking was full of empty units, the council did not care and the council wanted to increase parking charges by up to 71% in April."
It just goes to show that it is not only on this blog that people are sharing their negativity on the current state Dorking.

I am afraid that I do not listen to Radio 5 Live as it is far too depressing for my liking. Full of news about a recession in the UK, the latest business failures, Gordon Brown trying to bail out more companies with borrowed money, the turmoil in Gaza etc. Was interested that somebody texted in and nominated Dorking as a "ghost town." Sadly, they are spot on as Dorking has a large amount of empty units, when comparing it to the likes of Reigate, Cranleigh, Epsom and even Leatherhead! Wonder if it was somebody who contributes to this blog who nominated Dorking early yesterday morning on the radio? Jo
Doubt that a blogger might have been in touch with 5Live. There are a lot of people who love the town of Dorking and will do their utmost to support the town. They are sadly becoming more upset in the way the town is looking at present with a glut of empty shops, a council that wants to shaft Dorking by increasing the parking charges and looks on its residents as a source of revenue! The town is a depressing place to be and it appears that the council are more out of touch than I feared. They are cutting valuable services like the citizens advice bureau, Dorking Halls whilst increasing the council tax and charges for parking. And, they wonder why the electorate are angry, when they spend a small fortune redesigning the reception area at Pippbrook?? ~AP~
