Overkill on the roads?

The workmen are back again and roads are closed. It seems that no expense is too much for the London Road junction and Pump Corner. We now have an extra surface of beige stone with large areas of green being for the relatively non-existent bikes.

To me it seems like overkill. To the County Council is it probably a way of using up surplus budgets. I can't seem to think of any other reason for all this work when the improved functionality would surely be minimal.

On the pavement between London Road and the Council offices there are also no less than five painted images of bicycles. Who has the right of way here - pedestrians or bikes?

What the hell are Surrey County Council up to?? On Monday around midday, the town was choked with traffic in both directions. This was all because the morons had closed London Road to traffic once again and decided to paint parts of the High Street near the Dorking Halls green!!

Yesterday evening around 8:45pm, Pump Corner was closed again to traffic. Road closed signs were erected in the High Street and West Street when it was clearly stated on huge signs on the A24 that the work would be carried out from 9:30pm onwards. Sadly, the morons did not feel it was a priority to erect any diversion / detours signs, as I saw numerous drivers scratching their heads in the Sainsbury's car park trying to figure out how to continue their journeys to Guildford etc.

These road works are becoming a real joke!! None of the retailers, publicans, managers of restaurants know when they are due to finish. I went into Mole Valley District Council to find out and they just gave me the phone number for Surrey County Council (SCC). I have tried and tried this morning to get in contact with someone from the Highways Department at SCC and all I got was a message thanking me for my patience for holding on! My patience is wearing thin as there as been numerous blunders with these projects which have been highlighted on this blog before. Now these guys really seem to be taking p*ss, by painting all kind of symbols over the roads of Dorking and painting the roads all sorts of different colours!

Mole Valley are NOT responsible for the roads, highways and pavements, IT IS Surrey County Council.

Noticed when I walked down West Street last night that the green stuff that was put down to show the bicycle lane on the left hand side of the road is already beginning to come up. With a bit of rain and a bit of road traffic, the green paint will probably recede in a matter of days. And, why on earth is some of the green paint/debris on the pavement?? Were the workers doing a bit of a pub crawl before they embarked on this idiotic project on Tuesday night???

When are the bloddy traffic lights going to be restored at the London Road / High Street junction and near the Pump Corner junction. It is getting ridiculous and is amazing that no-one has been mown down by the boy racers who continue to plague the town centre most days of the week!!!

Work is still continuing on the High Street/London Road junction this morning (Tuesday April 3). I don't know what they are getting up to this morning but, there are still NO traffic lights. Anyone what to take a guess how much the road works have cost at Pump Corner and the London Road/High Street junction? More importantly, how much business have the retailers lost compared to last year?? And, when will these works be completed?? The Surrey County Council signs have long gone stating when these works were due to be completed. ~AP~
