Photo Optix, closed on Pump Corner

Photo Optix, the company has gone into administration so the shop on located on Pump Corner has closed forever. At the moment there is a sign in the window which states that the shop is closed for stocktaking.

This is another crucial unit for Dorking and we are in a similar situation to when the Pump Gallery closed last year. Hopefully there aren’t legal wrangles which cause this shop to be empty in the long term.

This shop was part of twelve retail units dotted across the south east. From what I gather they had one in the Ashley Centre, Epsom and another one in Banstead. I am sure there were others in and around Surrey. I also gather the other place in Dorking to get photographs developed and pictures taken in the High Street (near Ian Munros) is going in the very near future as well. In this age of digital cameras, I guess that these places are no longer viable. How long before the place which sells cameras and film next to Wellers (the newsagent) goes? Have also noticed through the Martin Brown website that the Origin and Age of Elegance units are now back on the market. They were both under offer but, it appears that the deals have fallen through at the very last minute. Still no takers for the Hairs & Graces unit and the Kodak Photo Express unit. These units have been on the market for a hell of a long time and the agent for the Photo Express unit recently reduced the rent quite substantially. With all the doom and gloom being spread by the media, it is going to be an all mighty struggle for Dorking! ~AP~

Sad news that another retailer has disappeared from Dorking. Doubt that this empty unit will be on the market in the very near future, as it has gone into adminstration. Remember Baby Boom??? That also went into adminstration and it almost took a year or so, for the goods inside the shop to be sorted out. I guess the same will apply to Photo Optix. Have been reading through the past posts and comments recently and I was just wondering wondering has anybody ever been charged for that mass brawl/assaults that occurred near the mainline train station/London Road/Ansell Road a couple of months ago??? It has gone very, very quiet and fear that the Surrey police have swept this thuggish behaviour underneath the carpet. So much for policing and safeguarding the communities. If anyone knows any different, please could you let me know via the blog.
Very, very scared in Surrey.

Photo Optix has already had all the stock packed up and cleared out so hopefully the shop can be re-let asap and will not remain empty for too long. It is in a prominent position so should not be too hard to let.

There is a host of empty shops to choose from in Dorking. Not only are there are quite a few empty in the High Street but, there are plenty to take a look at in South and West Street(s). It all depends on who the landlord of the Photo shop is in Pump Corner???? It would be nice if they were realistic in what they charged for rent. As for St Martins Walk, the rents are higher in this shopping center than the likes of Epsom and Reigate combined. What a joke!!!!

The Photo Optix shop is owned by the same landlord as The Corner House and Bakehouse and all the flats above. He's a nice chap.

Apparently the administrators have been appointed for Photo Optix and they are in the process of putting their retail units (including the one in Dorking) on the market. Fingers crossed, that this unit will shift very quickly. Nice to hear that there is a decent landlord in Dorking. I am afraid that the vast majority of them are money grabbing individuals who do not give a damn about Dorking. As for the 2nd anonymous comment above, I assume that you are referring to the outbreak of violence that happened about three months ago? Yes, it appears that no-one has been charged for this nasty outbreak of violence. It has gone very quiet and the last we heard that some youngsters had been arrested and bailed pending further enquiries. Also think that the new shop on South Street - The Gift Gallery, looks fabulous. Jo

The Gift gallery just has cards, cards and you guessed it has more cards. Did not see much else. Did not see the jewellery, the gifts for kids, mums and dads. If I wanted cards, I could have gone to Sussex stationers. Also noticed in my travels, that The Local off licence in South Street is closing down. The Bulls Head remains open as well. Thought that this pub was closing and that nobody was remotely interested in this gaff. What is going on???? Mo the ex-landlord/manager is already sunning himself in Ibiza.

Notice that the change of use application for 53 South Street has been REFUSED. The proposal was for an empty retail unit to be turned into a laundrette. This shop has been empty for a considerable amount of time and I thought a laundrette would be a very useful addition to the town centre. Apparently, it was turned down on the grounds of noise. So it looks the planners of Mole Valley have had their say and therefore, another unit will remain empty for a considerable amount of time. A previous change from retail to a restaurant/wine bar was also REFUSED some months prior to this application. 53 South Street is next to the Ceylon Tavern and it used to print logos t-shirts, sweaters and sell school uniforms. :(

Popped into The Cricketers on South Street over the weekend and I am afraid it is back to square one. The pub had run out of all lagers except Bud, which was an eye watering £3 a bottle. It had no crisps, peanuts or nibbles and the spirits were almost done with. Why do they bother to remain open???? Apparently, there are huge money problems at the pub and they might be getting a limited supply of alcohol on Monday. The landlord has disappeared and the staff were constantly looking over their shoulders. Were they expecting the baliffs or the Inland Revenue perhaps????

Went into the Cricketers last night and all the lagers were on but they had 'sold out' of Guinness & Strongbow (cider). It is still a great pub but, it desperately needs a buyer. It is still on the market. Jo

I went into the gift gallery the other day and i think the person above must have been mistaken, or doing a bit of shameless plugging...Hmmmm. From what i can see the gift gallery sold a lot more than just cards.
