Sunday Opening in Dorking

As reported in this weeks Dorking Advertiser, it seems that Sunday trading is being touted as the new big thing in Dorking. M&S is leading the way by opening seven days a week, from this Sunday.

M&S has occasionally opened on a Sunday in the past and I have often reported on this blog that it offers a great experience as opposed to fighting your way through Sainsbury's. When it has been open I have seen people queueing in Sainsbury's for nothing more than a bottle of milk.

Hopefully this publicity in the local newspaper will make more people aware that this major retailer in Dorking is open as an alternative.

As the article points out, there are a number of retailers that now open regularly on Sunday's and I feel it would be a good if others follow suit.

The residents of Dorking will still flock to Guildford, Kingston, Epsom, Horsham and London. With just a handful of the large retailers open, why would anyone bother spending a Sunday in Dorking?? I can see M&S, Woolworths, Clarks and Julian Graves throwing in the towel after just a few weeks. Love the reference about the manager of St. Martins Walk. It would be best if he keep his mouth shut and started attracting some decent retailers to this white elephant and joke of a so-called shopping centre!

Westcott Willy would like to sample the delights of Sunday shopping in Dorking, however, there are no buses from Westcott to Dorking on Sunday and his gummy leg prevents him trawling along A25 on his arthrytic foot.
