The BP Service Station closing?
It is reported in the Dorking Advertiser that the BP, next to the KFC, might be sold to developers. If this happens it would be the end of an era. The garage provides a useful 24 hour shop in the town and a useful alternative to the often overcrowded Esso Garage at Pippbrook. The Esso is ok but it often feels like the busiest garage in England! Imagine what it will be like if the BP closed.
The owner is reported to have run the BP for years and he is even thinking about putting in a private offer then making it more attractive as a local service station.
Luckily the garage is fighting back against these plans and has started a petition to save it, it is available to sign at the garage until the end of April.

Whilst, I agree that it would be a real shame that the BP service station might close. I would like to give an alternative view of what I think of the layout and the service at BP in Dorking. The BP service station is too cramped, unable to deal with more than a few cars at a time, is bl**dy expensive (currently 95.9p per litre for unleaded!) and the service within the shop is shocking! Dorking DOES need this petrol station though. If this was to close, Dorking would be only left with ONE petrol station - the Esso at Pippbrook. Other alternatives, are at least four or five miles away ie. the petrol station at Givons Grove, near Leatherhead and the other one being at Buckland on the A25!! Imagine, what would happen to the price of petrol, if the Esso at Pippbrook was the only one within the vicinity of Dorking??? Mole Valley MUST act on this immediately and work with BP to improve their petrol station. The Medwyn Surgery directly behind it will probably close later this summer as they move next to the new Linden Homes development, so maybe it should try and expand into that? Unfortunately, Mole Valley at the moment (according to the Dorking Advertiser) are probably TOO BUSY dealing with the extra costs of the Cock on the Deepedene Roundabout -- cost of this idiotic project has now jumped to £23,000!!!!!
I urge all readers of this blog, to get to the petrol station PRONTO and put your name and signature on the petition to fight the closure of the BP Service Station. If this goes ahead, it will be a very bleak day for Dorking and we will pay the ultimate price --- AT THE PUMP!!
