Unwins in trouble
Following on from my earlier posts, it has been reported today that Unwins is on the verge of administration (basically about to go bust). It is a shame when this happens to a company that has been running since 1843. Hopefully at least one of the two shops in Dorking will carry on trading as a off-licence after the collapse. Most people in the town will probably have noticed that both shops are more or less empty of any alcohol or cigarettes.
Apparently the problem stems from an increase in sales of wine, beer and spirits in supermarkets. The problem for Dorking is that Sainsbury's is the only supermarket open until 8.00pm. After that time the BP or Esso petrol garages are the only option, or to go to the pub.

Isn't there an off licence up South Street that isn't Unwins? Up on the raised bit. Unless it has closed down.
Yes, there is still one up South Street, luckily fully stocked. I went up there this evening. It will be the only one left if the other two shut down.
