Kings Arms - Gents Refurbished
After many years of squalor the gents toilet in the Kings Arms has been refurbished. Well re tiled at least and given a lick of paint. Amazingly 'the trough', as opposed to separate urinals, is still in place - maybe that is listed as a historic piece in Dorking! What they have done away with the is the windows. Before people who were sitting in the garden could see you having a slash through the frosted glass.

What a relief!! Thank goodness, the gents at The Kings Arms have been brought into the 21st Century. I was sick and tired of putting up with the floods from the urinals, wading through water and people peering in from the garden. They were smelly, dank and downright awful. Now they are brighter, more pleasing to the eye and a lot cleaner.
Hopefully, they can remain that way as people who frequent pubs, have an annoying habit of pissing on the floor, blocking the urinals with chewing gum and fags, tagging the toilets with their semi-humourous toilet tales, ripping the toilet seat off, breaking the hand drier etc.
um.. must take a visit to the kings arms to view the newly refurbished toilets...great topic of importance, has to be discussed on the dorking blog.
Presumably The Cockerel couldn't drag himself away from the trough, from the time of his posting on here! Personally, I'd rather discuss the other cockerel revelation..... on Deepdene roundabout. Still waiting for a good reason to be given for why it shouldn't be there.
The toilets were always a contenious issue at The Kings Arms. They were througly disgusting and were a disgrace to this pub. My biggest problem now with The Kings Arms (and the pubs in Dorking) is the amount of people who smoke at these establishments. As a non-smoker, I find it often hard to breathe and there is always some damn person(s) smoking a dreaded cigar(s). WHY are all the pubs so poorly ventilated?? Sorry to be controversial, but I cannot wait to the smoking ban. Hardly any, have non-smoking sections and if they do, they are routinely ignored like in Arty P's.
the toilets in the King's Arms, as in other dorking pubs (and I refer here particularly to The Surrey Yeoman/Hog's Head) remain a disgrace in my opinion. I have been to much better toilets in the weatherspoons chain! Since for most beer drinking blokes a good portion of the evening is spent stood by a urinal, the disgusting environment does detract slightly from the otherwise splendid experience of a traditional pub piss-up.
