Dorking Gala Night 7/12/06
Christmas is only three weeks away and the Dorking Gala Night will be taking place this Thursday 6.00pm - 9.00pm. Its always a great night we just have to hope the weather holds up. The shops are always packed and most will be handing out free drinks and snacks. The event has now run for years and gets more popular each year. The theme for this years event will follow a 70's theme, so it should be good. You have never seen so many people in Dorking!
Afterwards, if you haven't got any kids with you, then a visit to the pub is well worth it. You probably won't get any free stuff but the atmosphere will be great with a totally mixed crowd and a varied clientele compared to the usual. Recommended.

Looking very much to the gala night festivities. Last year turned out to be a wonderful evening -- it was good natured, most of the shops were open late and there was a huge variety of people shopping, watching the entertainment and just enjoying themselves. Hopefully, it will continue in the same vain!
The things that bothers me is that crowds year on year are getting larger making it impossible to walk down the pavements, crowds spilling onto the road and the outside chance of thugs taking advantage of the free food, drink etc. Hopefully, it will be a joyous night for the general public and the retailers. Also hope that people from outside of Dorking and the villages, will notice how good and unique the shopping experience is in our town.
Too true, i have also noticed that it just gets so busy there isn't any chance of concentrating on shopping, it is a great night and lets hope trouble free however.
For the first time in years, I did not make into Dorking for gala night tonight. Hope that the wet and windy weather held off, the crowds behaved themselves and that the people who ventured in had a great time. Also that the shops had a profitable night and the entertainment went off without a hitch!
Can you please fill me in, on how the night went?? I sincerely hope it was a success and that it put Dorking town centre in a positive light.
